History

The first successful steamboat is believed to have been built in the 1770's in France . The first  steam boats typically had a speed of 7 to 8 miles per hour.

Initially steam boats were used as a tow boat and also to run a passenger boat service. Most of the steamboats were paddle wheel driven.
