Stern wheel design

Stern wheel steamboats had a simple design with a flat bottomed construction. These steamboats could float in shallow water less than three feet deep and could be used to pickup and drop off passengers extensively. They were also used extensively for the hauling material for the construction of railroads.  

The hulls of the boats were generally wooden.
